The Elvis Press
Presezzi Extrusion of Vimercate, Italy, is a supplier of major components to some of the world's best-known press builders, and is commited to the construction of hydraulic presses for the extrusion of nonferrous metals. Presezzi can provide short stroke, compact, or conventional presses, all forged components (meeting all required tests and certifications), and state-of-the-art controls and hydraulics.
At ET'04, Presezzi announced that it sold a 2800 MT, 9-inch circle direct press to its first North American customer, Service Center Metals (SCM) of Prince George County, VA, within the past year. The press, nicknamed "Elvis," is a compact design with a shifting stem to reduce dead cycle time to under 16 seconds. SCM has customized its plant for rapid tooling changes and minimum downtime. The new Presezzi press, and new extrusion handling equipment (including 100-ton capacity OMAV stretcher), is geared toward processing a wide range of extrusion sizes and weights (from .600 to 15 lbs/ft.), an advantage in serving the distributor market. SCM will utilize the press to produce standard aluminum rods, bars, and tubing. SCM's 77,000 sq.ft. plant was built with future expansions in mind with a capacity to easily double in size. |
